The Amos Anderson Art Museum has a small collection of old art that was mostly owned privately by the donor, Amos Anderson (18781961), who was a Finnish newspaper and publishing magnate and a friend of art and culture. Mainly consisting of religious art, it was dear to Anderson and the works were mounted on the walls of his home, which was opened as an art museum in 1965.
This collection of old art was long regarded as being of modest value and mostly consisting of copies of original works. Recent studies of the collection have revealed, however, that there are also authentic works among the copies. The Donors Works presents the most interesting pieces and discusses attributions of works, problematic motifs, and the surprising results of technical investigations of the artworks.
